Ok - so these are my first measurements taken 10 days post-op. I didn't think to do them before the surgery, so they will have to do as a starting point. And for the weight, I know I was 247 lbs at my pre-op appointment on Dec 2nd, but I don't have a scale at the house so I didn't have a weight to put up one for these measurements. At my first clinic appointment I weighed 257 and had a BMI of 44.1. According to their scale - my body fat percentage was 52.9%.

Why no scale? Because up to this point they were a taboo item in the house. I knew I was fat and I didn't need a scale to tell me that. But thanks to some x-mas gift cards I'm going to go out and get one before my next update - because now I DO want to know!

The paper behind me is a drawing of my outline when the above measurements were taken. We will try to remember to update it about once a month.

Christmas
Everyone keeps asking me how I handled the holidays without being able to eat. A good question, I guess... but (despite my weight) I have never been a big eater... and I am a picky eater even then... So it wasn't hard at all, because I wasn't hungry.

In fact - Christmas Eve marked my 3-week post op date and that meant I could add in "soft proteins" to my diet. These include hard cheeses, eggs, and fat free refried beans. All high in protein and low in calories. So for my Christmas eve meal I got to have a spoonful of refried beans topped with some melted cheddar cheese from my Aunt's amazing Christmas enchiladas! Even though to some it may have on looked like 6 little bites of bean and cheese... to me it was a feast I had been waiting for!!! I grew up here in San Antonio, and if you aren't from here - one of the staples at any Mexican food restaurant are bean and cheese tacos. They are sold as breakfast tacos or at lunch dinner - or anytime of the night.

So this meal wasn't just beans & cheese, it was a small warm bowl of yummy comfort food!

Happy Holidays to you all and I hope yours was as full of family and love as mine was!
